Saigontourist commenced operations in 1975 in Ho Chi Minh City as the city's first business in the tourism industry. On March 30, 1999, Saigontourist Holding Company was established by the decision of The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. It is a state-run enterprise incorporating many city-based travel firms of which Saigontourist Company is the key partner.

Saigontourist Holding Company has been ranked by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism as one of the leading tourism corporations in Vietnam. It has greatly contributed to the development of Vietnam's tourism industry by providing a wide range of services such as accommodation, food & beverage, travel, recreation, trading, import-export, duty free shops, transport, construction, tourism & hospitality training, food production & processing.

In recent years, Saigontourist has diversified, and is now managing 8 travel service companies, 54 hotels, 13 resorts and complexes, and 28 restaurants with well-appointed facilities. It has also cooperated with more than 50 local joint ventures, public-private business cooperation establishments and joint stock companies, and 9 joint ventures with foreign partners.

With the motto "Branding - Quality - Efficiency - Integration", Saigontourist will pay special attention to stepping up business efficiency, improving service quality, expanding investments to upgrade existing facilities, developing new products with a distinct national and cultural character, and intensifying more promotion and marketing campaigns to existing target markets and potential markets.

As an official member of PATA, ASTA, JATA and USTOA and through its relations with more than 200 foreign travel companies in 30 countries, Saigontourist will continue to focus on enhancing and expanding markets, especially international target markets such as Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, France, Germany, England, Canada, U.S.A..., by promoting its new products in the areas of accommodation, resorts, travel, shopping, MICE, river tours and cruises via its partners outside Vietnam. To ensure future growth, it will actively develop Saigontourist branches in Southeast Asia.

With a strong driving force and vision for the future of tourism in Vietnam, Saigontourist is moving forward. This can be seen in the history of its development and its continuing effort to achieve its goals to expand markets and to position Vietnam in the forefront of Asian tourism.
